Kat's Sixy post

I have the flu.  I am incredibly bored. In high school I loved sick days because it was always fun to take a break from school. In college, I’m just grateful that I’m not sick during the week because I can’t miss class.
Whenever I was sick when I lived at home, it was pretty fun.  I’d watch movies in the living room and hang out with my dog all day.  I have kinda crappy lungs, so I always seem to get respiratory diseases.  In the scheme of things, I’d much rather be coughing than any of the alternatives.  My parents are also huge skeptics, so when they’d ask me for the thousandth time if I was still sick, all I’d have to do is cough and that would be the end of it for a while. I had pneumonia twice during my sophomore year of high school.  On both occasions, my parents thought that I was over exaggerating a cold. My dad was usually the one who took me in to see a doctor, and when we went in, he didn’t want to believe that I was somewhat seriously sick until the x-rays of my fluid filled lungs came back.  With a healthy dose of drugs, I would be back to normal.

Between calls from my parents, I would terrorize my dog, Rally.  He is the weirdest creature I’ve ever met. He is a rescue, so he has a lot of strange tendencies. For example, he turns into a brick whenever I pick him up, I’m the only one he allows to pick him up, he’s afraid of water, and he loves attention but only in spurts. On sick days, Rally would go absolute bananas; he was usually home alone during the day.  While home alone, I assume he would sleep all day. When I was home alone, he would run laps around the house and bark at me as my family was getting ready for the day. After my parents left for work and my brothers for school, Rally would chill out. I’d make my blanket nest on the couch, and since Rally hated being on the couch, he would camp out on the floor by my feet.  Around noon, we’d make our way to the kitchen. Rally loves the kitchen. I know you’re not supposed to give dogs people food, but when I was sick it felt like a special occasion. My favorite meal to make for Rally and me was breakfast. Sometimes it would be eggs, or bacon, but our favorite was pancakes. I’d always make chocolate chip for myself and mini ones for him. I’d then sit on the floor with the plate and we’d eat them together (photo included).  Now that I’m sick without him, all of the fun has been sucked out a sick days for me.

  1. Aww I love the connection of bringing your dog into the post and it makes me just want to hug a doggo to make everything better. All my friends got sick this week and I am sure I will be sick very soon, and I know this time it will be bad, but I will have no dog to help. I hope you get well soon, I really do.

  2. I agree sick days in high school vs college are very different. In high school I found it easy to fake sick and now in college even if I coughed up a lung I would still drag myself to some classes. I always enjoyed cooking on my sick days aswell. If I was feeling up to it I would make cupcakes. I too would cacoon myself on my couch, probably bingewatching a show or watching a cheesy romcom. I really am a sucker for a bad movie. The company of my dog on sick days was always nice and I think she appreciated my company too. She would follow me around everywhere I went and sometimes get in extremely playful moods. My sick days for her were miracles filled with a pay partner and treats. Feel better!
