#8 - Kamille Martin
I learned 1 week before Spring Break that I was going to be heading back to California. Prior to this, I planned spending my time in Boston. Although I had an entire schedule that I made for myself regarding what I wanted to accomplish (because I am a planner with everything I do), this all went to bricks after learning I was returning home. Don't get me wrong, I wanted to go back, but with last minute notice, I didn't have any time to plan my time in California. This was important to me because I knew I would have limited time to spend with my friends and family. I wanted to make my time at home worth every moment. If I were to stay in Boston, I planned on exploring the city more and getting ahead on my school work. After learning I was coming home, I figured I could do this during the summertime instead. The first thing I did when I got back was to see my best friend. She wanted to do a last minute birthday dinner with me because I finally turned 18 the Friday before spring break began. This was a huge milestone for me due to the fact that I 1 by 1 had to watch all my peers around me turn 18 and then 19 while I will still 17. Often others ask why I'm one year younger and I always tell them it is because I skipped kindergarten (which is the truth), but I always feel like they expect a more extravagant reason and I wish I had one, for that matter.
Nevertheless, throughout my week, I pretty much did everything under the sun. On Monday, I went to my hometown's local "food packing house" with 2 of my friends which contains lots of "food truck" like foods and amazing desserts such as a Churro Bar. Tuesday, my best friend and I drove to Huntington Beach. We spent the day going to the little shops, sitting on the sand, watching the sunset, and ending the night at our favorite restaurant "BJ's" to order the best cookie pizookies ever. Wednesday was filled with appointments. I had to go to the doctors to get my annual physical, skin doctor, and dentist. Thursday came by and I yet again had a late lunch with one of my older friends and had a sleepover with my 2 besties. I designated Friday and Saturday to spend with my parents because I knew they wanted to also take me into Irvine to have a dinner and movie evening. Overall, I was more than thankful to be able to go home and have nostalgia for a bit. I will always consider California my home, no matter where I am in life.
Once Sunday came around, it was time for the 5 hour flight to Boston. All went smoothly, besides the fact that the flight was delayed for 2 hours due to airplane mechanic problems. However, my spring break had a sweet ending after all because after landing, I met my friends from campus at a restaurant. We ate together and talked about our individual spring break experiences. Now, I can't wait for summer, especially knowing it is only 2 months away!
