Blog Post #11 - Victoria Nemeth

During this period of social distancing, the days are starting to blur together because of the repetitive routine of watching lectures, studying for exams, completing assignments, while finding moments in between to spend time with my dog, eat dinner, and watch some Netflix.  I think that some good things are coming out of this period of social distancing: more family time, cooking family meals, going on walks, and getting some time to slow down and take time for myself to read or watch some movies or series on Netflix.
Last week I had my first online test for biology.  It was on plants and some animals. I spent so much time last week studying for that test, and honestly it wasn’t an easy test to study for or take.  This whole semester I have been trying different study methods from study guides, to flashcards, to flowcharts, to try to do my best in this class. I am not really sure what the best combination is for studying, but hopefully this class will help me in future exams and classes to be more confident in the way I study and what methods work best for me. During the next few weeks I hope that I get the hang of studying for online exams and quizzes.  One thing I’ve realized is it can be challenging to find motivation or stay focused while I’m at home.
One thing I am really thankful for during social distancing is how connected we are as a society.  We have been facetiming my grandma and my aunts and uncles which is really nice to be able to keep in touch and see how they’re doing.  I am really thankful that this quarantine has happened when we have the ability to facetime relatives, watch movies as a family, stream music and other videos and complete our classes online.  It is also really cool to see how some celebrities are doing livestream concerts to help raise awareness about social distancing, and maybe keep people’s spirits up during this period of time that is full of unknowns.
One of my classes called the American Healthcare System has been really interesting the past few weeks because we have been talking about relevant information, including public health responses and different measures taken to include public health.  I think it’s really interesting that I have the ability to learn and be in a class that can teach me these things that are very applicable to real life that is happening right now.
Another thing that I’ve been doing during this period of social distancing is a lot of cooking with my family.  Since I’ll be living in an apartment next year, I am going to need to be able to cook some meals for myself. I’ve helped my parents with all different kinds of things to cook dinners and snacks which I am excited to be able to use those skills next year in an apartment at school.

  1. Wow. Just flex on those who probably won't have an apartment next year :'(
Ps. Do you want my utensils and stuff cause I probably won't have a use for them if I end up in IV

  2. HAHA Sabrina I feel you. During this time of uncertainty how nice it would be to know what our living situation is next year lol.
I totally relate to struggling to figure out how to best study for that class and feeling further rattled by trying to again readjust to figuring out how to best study for classes given the change of format to online. I for one have been really impressed with how you have been able to juggle everything that has been changing over the past few weeks. <3 You have been a source of objectivity and stability for me. Thanks love :) Keep it up.
