Instead of writing about quarantine because, frankly, I am sick about hearing about it, I am going to write about a happy memory I have. I am going to write about my spring break. That break was so much fun. My two friends and I went down to St. Thomas with my friend’s mom. It was the beginning of the corona outbreak so I wore a mask on the plane, even though they told people to not if they weren’t sick. We arrived in St. Thomas and the weather was beautiful. It was so warm and sunny. We then quickly boarded the ferry and got to St. John in twenty minutes. Upon arrival, we picked up our rental jeep and drove up to our villa. It was breathtaking. We had a view of so many islands and a gorgeous infinity pool. I could not believe we were going to be living there for six days. Each room had a king-size bed and a luxurious outdoor shower. We immediately jumped in the pool. We saw our first sunset of the trip from the water. Then, when it got dark we turned on the pool light. I was swimming around the pool and then I saw something fly very close to my head. It was a bat. Of course, I started screaming and panicked a bit. I quickly got over it as I remembered where I was. The next day, we woke up early and headed to Trunk Bay beach. It was magnificent. The sand was as white as could be and the water was crystal clear and warm. We spent the entire day lounging and swimming in the ocean. Almost every day of that trip we were very lucky with the weather. Since before we left for the trip, I could not stop telling my friends about how badly I wanted to eat conch fritters. Now, if you don’t know what those are, they are basically like the fried mac and cheese balls from the Cheesecake Factory but rather than being filled with mac and cheese, they are filled with conch. Conch is a type of seafood that is found in the beautiful pink conch shell. That afternoon, I got my conch fritters at a beach bar. I’ve had conch fritters before, but I think you can only get them in the Caribbean so it has been awhile. One day, we went on a private boat tour. The tour guide took us to a famous taco bar. It was floating in a harbor with floating tables surrounding it. I had an excellent shrimp taco. He then took us to a cove where we could go snorkeling. We saw stingrays, nurse sharks, and even turtles. It was great. We ended the boat trip with our sail back with a view of the sunset. My favorite part of the entire trip was being with my friends and being able to experience the beautiful island of St. John with them. I am so grateful we were able to go on the trip before the pandemic outburst.
