Blog Post #12- Abby Jiminian

Coping through quarantine has been an interesting time for me. Until now I didn't realize how much joy I got from seeing people go about their lives even if I didn't know them. The first few days of quarantine were definitely harder than I expected. I found myself being too dependent on keeping in touch with everyone from campus life and that was honestly stressing me out. I also found myself becoming lethargic. I stopped working out, didn't try to walk 10,000 steps and was not eating healthy anymore. All I did was lay in bed honestly.

I've combated this by giving myself daily incentives. If it's a nice day out I'll take my dog out for a walk( don't worry i'm wearing gloves and a mask) and then I'll do jump roping outside and come inside to do a workout around 6:30 pm. This is something I look forward to and it allows me to get outside the house and do something. I've also got my parents into a health kick. My parents cook relatively healthy meals but now we are really working towards incorporating healthy diets in all our meals. Another incentive of mine is certain tv shows. I like crime/action shows and every night CBS or another network will play a show with some type of police, firefighter or doctors and it's nice to sit with my family and watch these. On Tuesdays and Thursday nights I do yoga in my living room instead of a high intensity workout to allow myself more relaxation.

Another way I've dealt with the boredom is through FaceTime. I have been FaceTiming a lot of people and it's a nice way to see their face and talk to them. I have been doing group FaceTimes with my best friends and they have been very helpful. My best friends are incredible people and we have been talking about meaningful things that we have all been going through allowing us to vent and get closer to one another in the meantime. If I'm not on FaceTime with my best friends then I'll FaceTime with someone else that I am friends with or cool with and have more meaningful conversations.

I've been watching a lot of Netflix series too which is helpful. I binged On my Block, Elite, All American and almost done with Victorious. I have also watched lots of movies and tried to keep myself busy. If I'm not doing this then I'll usually spend some time on Tik Tok's watching viral dances, inspirational stories. I have also started to make my own and they are quality content.

I guess what I am trying to say is I am trying to give myself different activities and tasks to do daily so that I don't just get bored and lazy. I know this will be a challenge once the semester is over but I plan on just working out a lot and cleaning my room during that time so I do not go crazy. In a way I am kinda glad I signed up for summer classes because I know that will keep me busy from May to June.
