Abby Jiminian- Who am I? And What Am I Doing here?
Who am I?
For me my identity has always been something I've struggled with. My name is Abigail (Abby) Jiminian, I live in Dedham Mass and I am 18 years old. I grew up in a small suburb with only 700 students in my high school. My graduating class consisted of only 185 students. In the suburb I grew up in everyone knew everybody and there was not a lot of originality in peoples identities. For me that was always a struggle. I find myself to be unique and to not follow the normal trends so I struggled a lot as a younger child finding myself and my interest. I always had difficulty understanding the way I was defined in society because it never really made sense to me. My parents and older siblings provided a great foundation for me and for how I carried myself throughout life. Instead of them forcing their own identities on me they aided my ability to foster my own personal interests. I've grown into a love for athletics, medicine and music all factors that contribute to my overall characteristics. College has definitely allowed to me grow up and become more independent, allowing me to further grasp who I am as a person. Being away from home has allowed me to grow up and become a more mature individual. I have learned more about myself and my personal identity in the small time I have been in college.
What am I doing here?
Well in regards as to what I am doing at Northeastern University it is because I was lucky enough for the university to have accepted me as a student here. I wanted to go to Northeastern because they have an amazing STEM program. In the future I want to go to Medical School to become a doctor and the Health Sciences Major at Northeastern Immediately caught my attention. My first semester was not on the Boston Campus. I was in Greece doing Nu In for the first semester of college. It was a different experience in every way. I definitely appreciate the time I spent in Europe as a student because it required a lot of determination and focus. It was hard at times to be so far away from home and there were times that I wanted to just give up. However, I stuck with it and I am so thankful for that. Being so far away from home and studying abroad made me really think about what I wanted to do for my future and this time away from home reassured my dreams. I think personally my purpose on this Earth is to help people in anyway I can. I have always been drawn to aiding people and putting their needs before mine. This is why I want to study Medicine so I can be an Emergency Physician and really help those in need. Overall I think Im here to mess up, be better and find out my true purpose in life. Right now I am just going with the flow and letting life happen. I do not want to give myself to much rigidity because I want my overall journey to be fluid full of adventures and many milestones.
