Meeghan Cronin- Who am I and What am I Doing Here

Who am I?
Well, my name is Meeghan (yes Meeeeeeeeghan, not Meghan) and I am from Marblehead, MA. I was born in Salem, MA which is the town right next to Marblehead and famously known for its witch history. I am from a family of four and have a younger sister named Molly. I have lived in Marblehead my entire life but I traveled to Maine to ski for most of my childhood during winter weekends. Growing up playing sports, I lived an extremely active lifestyle. I was always going to soccer practice or lacrosse practice or packing up my ski equipment for a race. I am a very competitive person but I also loved the team atmosphere and social aspect of the sports I played. Most of my best friends I met through playing youth sports in my town or joining a local club team. Sports always kept me on a very strict schedule and helped me plan out when I needed to finish my homework or study for an exam. Adjusting to a lifestyle where I don't have the same strict schedule has been an interesting adjustment, but I am slowly getting the hang of it. I am currently an Undeclared Bouve student but am leaning towards a health science major. Science has always been my favorite subject in school however I am also interested in history as well. In terms of my future, I am not completely sure what I want to do with the rest of my life. I am interested in the pre-health professions but that is about all I know. So if it isn't obvious, I can sometimes be a very indecisive person. But I would also consider myself a funny, caring, and driven person.

Why am I here?
Growing up in a small town like Marblehead was both a blessing and a curse. My town offers a truly tight-knit community and everyone is involved in youth sports, local volunteering, and high school events. However, kids who are graduating often talk about their desire to get out of the "Marblehead Bubble", which I began to understand last year. As much as I loved the small-town lifestyle I wanted to meet new people who had new stories and experience different cultures. So when I had the opportunity to go to the school in the city and travel to Greece the first semester, it was an opportunity I was super excited for. Traveling abroad taught me a lot and really transformed me as a person. While abroad I learned that I am actually quite good at being independent. I also learned that I love to travel to new places and try new activities or foods. At Northeastern I have the chance to meet people from all over the world while living in the city gives me the opportunity to explore Boston. Most importantly I am here to learn and discover what I want to do with the rest of my life. I hope to discover what subjects and classes I like or dislike while getting the chance to integrate myself in the workforce while on co-op. I am also excited to be close to home this semester. As much as I was excited to throw myself out of the "Marblehead Bubble", I did miss my family while I was abroad. Now I have the opportunity to visit back home when I want to.

  1. I relate to a lot that you say in this discussion post. I am also a competitive person, but when it comes to sports, one of the best parts is the team and the social atmosphere. My town is also very tight-knit community (there is even a Facebook mom group), so I completely relate to wanted to get out of a "bubble". Northeastern has also given me a new glimpse into a different life, by meeting some of the best people here and has opened my eyes to so many new things.
