Abigail Jiminian- Blog post #5
For this blog post I wanted to talk a little bit about how I felt while typing my draft for the writing assignment due on Wednesday. Without going into too much detail because I do not want to spoil what I have written I just kind of wanted to give myself a small pat on the back because this assignment was actually really helpful for me personally. It was a mode of catharsis for sure. After I wrote it I felt so liberated and like I had a better understanding for myself as a person. By no means is this paper to the best form it could be in but I am proud of the work I was able to put down on the paper. Writing has never been an easy task for me and when I can write with an actual purpose and inspiration it actually makes me really happy. Im excited for the editing process to happen too but for now I am done with the paper. I set it aside and will look at it tomorrow for revision. I know right now my brain is a little too fired for me to try and fix all the errors I made while writing. But I'm actually glad that the paper does not have to be perfect yet. So many times I stress about papers because when I turn them in they have to be to a very high degree but I liked that this paper did not stress me out as much. It still matters that I do this paper right but I know that the first time around it is okay to have mistakes and for it to not be perfect which is liberating.
For the remainder of the post I want to talk about how I am actually starting to really enjoy tutoring at the BTU. The kids that go into the writers room are such bright and intelligent individuals. I find it funny that I like helping people with their writing since most of the time I do not like writing myself. Anyway, I really do enjoy my time there that I spend with those kids because they are so willing to learn and adapt to different scenarios. I like being the cool tutor that can talk to you about your work but also just get to know you. I also like hearing the kids talk and interact with one another. It's amazing to make connections with the kids because they seem to be more receptive towards your help. Like last time the student I was working with had the same sneakers as me and happened to be Dominican. I told them I was half Dominican and that made the student smile. I feel like making those small connections with the student while working is important because they seem to be more receptive to accepting your help if you open up to them about your life. I also really like the faculty at the BTU. Everyone there is very nice and open and it makes the experience that much better. I don't feel like an outsider at all while I am tutoring which is important. I know myself if I feel unwanted or unwelcome I won't perform as well.

That is fantastic that you've made such a personal connection to your essay, I hope it turns out fantastic! It is also wonderful that you can make such good connections with the students you are seeing at the BTU, and that you can make such a meaningful impact on the students! I hope all the experiences you have as a tutor are as fulfilling as this past experience was.
