Today is the first time for me to start the service-learning of this semester, and it is also the first formal service-learning in my life.
My job today is to help 11th graders, and it's been an unforgettable experience for me, getting to know those kids from a higher perspective than I did two years ago. The student I worked with today was way ahead in their research and could explain exactly what they wanted to do today. In my communication with the student, I realized that he was a very smart kid. I also found him willing to listen to my comments on his writing and make corrections. This is really something that can make me try to get involved in the program without being awkward or nervous. Still, there is something that he needs to be improved, like getting tired so fast, cannot focus on what has been told for so long and one last thing- cannot tell what he really was thinking about. He always has lots of good ideas but he just can't express his feeling inside his article, which also makes me memorize myself back into the old days. We also became friends at last!
In the end, I would like to say that it was a perfect experience for me today and I hope I can get more chances to do some meaningful service-learning like that.
