It is Presidents' Day this week, so I do not have much to say about our EMK tutoring since they had a holiday also. So instead of talking about the clever cute boy with me in my tutoring, the peer review we had last week can be my topic this week.
Before when I was in high school, we had lots of peer review, but most of the time I thought it as the waste of my time since for peer review every time we just chatted something else and did not talk much about our essays as no one really cares what we are talking about.
However, after entering college, I became more mature and try to be responsible for every class I take. So this time it was so beneficial for both me and KK after our peer review. Based on reviewing her essay, it makes me learned a lot as her points have been expressed so well. Instead of just using one point, KK used several points to tell the story and also she used two citations from both Donald Murray’s “All writing is Autobiography” and Brandt’s definition of the sponsor of literacy. First, by using these two citations, it is really easy and comfortable for readers like us who had classes before since both of the readings had been mentioned in class. So, in this way readers can understand deeply more about what story was trying to tell maybe through Brandt’s opinion, a sponsor of literacy can be any number of things and combine with “ all writing is autobiography”, the writer may try to use her own autobiography that can still attribute to many sponsors she has come across. But still, there are things that can be improved maybe like, try to make this essay more like a story instead of a real essay that talks about big points. For other readers, I can not be sure. But for me, if I am reading an autobiography, I would really prefer to read a whole story that comes from the writer’s mind or reality instead of reading an essay about two points with a lot of explanation and citation. Still, that does not mean this essay did not write well, she is being perfect on writing this essay, it is just more about maybe different styles that readers would love to read.
All these points made after reviewing my partner's essay helped me learned other people's writing styles and different points which later I can use in my essay also. In this way, peer review can be really helpful.
