Writing these blog posts have made me realize I could never run a blog. I can never think about what to write about. As much as I want to mix things up and write about something that has nothing to do with quarantine or corona, that fact that I have been trapped in my house with nothing to do doesn't give me much else to talk about. I guess I can use this to vent about how much I dislike learning about plants. On Thursday I have a biology exam about plants and animals. Studying about plants, their structures, and how they reproduce, is one of the most boring things I have ever had to learn. Memorizing everything about gymnosperms and angiosperms is not my cup of tea to say the least. The fact that we have to be tested on it I find quite ridicules. I mean I get it, we are in school, paying thousands of dollars to learn, and I chose this major. But being forced to cram a shit ton of information about plants, their structures, and their behaviors, in my head in order to be able to answer 55 very specific questions all under a time restraint is quite stupid. This exam, that will have a big impact on my grade, that will also affect my GPA, that can affect other aspects of my future. All about a topic that I will forget everything I know about it the second the test is over. Information that I will probably never use again in my life. Well, that is, except for the final. Now, this doesn't apply to all classes or subjects. I don't really know what I am getting at but, man do I really hate plants right now. It definitely doesn't help that I am struggling to find any motivation while I am in my house.

I feel the exact same way about this exam as I do about standardized test that we were forced to take in high school. I can really go off about the ACT/SAT. Tests in general are not the most accurate ways to judge someone's intelligence or how much they learned. Research has been done time and time again proving the different types of intelligences and papers have been written about how little ones ACT/SAT score says about you. It doesn't show the tutors you could or could not afford, it doesn't show the testing anxiety you may or may not have, it doesn't explain the events happening in ones life that could help or hurt the score. I do not, for one second, miss having to take those tests. It is funny to think about how much stress they caused me and how important I thought they were. The fact that they are still a crucial part of whether you will be accepted in to a university is really silly. But, until they find a different way to really show ones intelligence, might as well slap a number on it based off of whether you know the difference between affect and effect, if you can explain the main point of paragraph 3, if you know the Pythagorean theorem, and if you can read a line graph. Oh, and do it all in a very short time constraint.

  1. I can confidently say I whole-heartedly agree with your sentiments! I too, hate plants, and have no motivation to learn about them! But I believe we'll get through this, and hopefully in the coming semesters, the info we have to memorize will be more interesting.
