Blog post #9- Abby Jiminian

After taking a few online classes I have determined that it is not the route for me. I am not a fan of this platform honestly. While there are a few upsides and positives in the end it has resulted in me having way more work. For example, my biology class lectures have turned from one hour to two hours and some change because I am doing notes while listening to the pre recorded lectures so I have to stop every so often to stay with the lecture and write everything down.

Some of my teachers are also doing live lectures which honestly is just not working. It is a lot to be on live, the videos lag and the information is not getting transmitted properly in my eyes. Not only that but a lot of my classes like my chem lab and lecture and bio lab keep on posting things on blackboard or sending emails and that is making me nervous. It makes me nervous because I feel like I am missing assignments or I am not paying attention to the class. However, once I check the email or post I realize that is more information they keep posting without explaining what the assignment is.

I will say that the classes that are not doing online lectures or are posting one email are better because it is more organized and does not stress me out as much. I am also learning more in those classes because I am allowed to do the information in blocks and not suffer through a live video that lags and is hectic.

There are some luxuries of being at home. I do miss campus life and really miss my friends. The environment and being able to live on campus was an amazing experience. Being a Nu in student my first year was already so unconventional. My first semester I did not live in Boston and my second semester got cut short because of a pandemic. It is almost as if my freshman year was a movie trailer. However, I do like being home and being able to spend time with my dog. While I take notes and do work he sits on my bed and watches me. I also get to get up and eat snacks whenever while taking online classes so that is a plus. I just found myself more active on campus and now I am stuck in a house in my room or in the living room which after a while gets boring. I have also been thinking about my eyesight. I know it sounds weird but think about it all these hours on a computer staring at it is not good for your eyesight. I am really not trying to mess up my eyesight for these online classes.

This my reality for a while though so I have to learn how to just suck it up. I am taking summer 1 and they indicated in an email earlier that those classes are also online. So I guess it is just one long journey for everyone until September.
