This is the story of the daunting task that is cleaning my room.
To begin, I was not a slob, I was more of a hoarder. I still had clothes and shoes from fourth grade, that’s right, I have not grown since fourth grade. I would keep clothing because I thought I could integrate it into my style or that I had sentimental value. But it came to the point that most of my wardrobe sat in a drawer or my closet for years. I also had large clumps of clothes and random items in each corner of my room. And on top of all of that, I had no decorations up that made this space mine.
I started with my closet. This was a huuuuge task. You know in movies when the kid throws everything in the closet to make their room clean, well that was me. I had so many miscellaneous items in my closet, I didn't know what was there. It was my dumping ground. So in cleaning this, I had to, as my mom refers to it,  “weed” through the assortment of shoes on the ground and organize them in order to get to the miscellaneous items. I found two whole bins of just socks, along with my sock drawer. Here’s some background so you don’t think I’m crazy, my mom sells socks, so I have a massive amount of them. To show you how many items of clothing and shoes were in my closet, my mom walked into my closet, after the organizing and cleaning, and said, “there's a floor there?”
The next day was dedicated to “weeding” and organizing the clothes in my drawers, and then trying to rid my room of the large gatherings of items in the corners of my room. While doing this, I realized that I should reorganize my drawers in a way that would accommodate the different amounts of clothes. I ended up throwing out a large amount of the stuff in the drawers with miscellaneous items in them and if they were necessary then I organized them. My room is now clean and there are no big clumps and everything kind of makes sense. That’s new.

Then I began decorating. By no decorations, I mean I had only a tapestry up and a sign from my bat-mitzvah. So obviously it's a little outdated, and honestly doesn’t really represent me anymore. After finding all of the postcards that I had purchased in Europe and all of the pictures that I had from my apartments, in Dublin and Boston, I realized that I had to decorate my room with those. That represents me the most. So I began hanging up the pictures, and I found my graduation cap. I spent so much time on that, and I feel as though it represents me moving forward here, Northeastern University, and bigger and better things. Needless to say, I hung it up. I am still in the process of decorating my room, but now it feels more personal and my room feels like it's mine again.
