Kat's 11th post
I still hate quarantine. This has been such a long two weeks and I am very ready for everything to go back to normal. The three things that I was excited about coming back to Minnesota to were my friends, a job, and getting back to riding. Of course due to social distancing, seeing my friends and getting a job have been thrown out the window. As of yesterday I thought that riding was going to be out of the picture too because the barn is closed since it is a nonessential business. I was getting rather desperate to find excuses to get away from my family though.
I know my coach well. She isn’t quick to ask for help, but she is a 73 year old woman who is now stuck with caring for and exercising well over 20 horses. There are always barn hands around to do some labor, but yesterday I thought that it couldn’t hurt to reach out and see if Anne needed an extra set of hands to wrangle the horses. I have stayed in contact with some of the little girls who still ride regularly under Anne and they told me that everyone is essentially banned from coming to the barn, so I tried not to get my hopes up for Anne to have me do some work for her. Thankfully, she accepted my offer. I am so unbelievably excited to have somewhere to go on a schedule again. I’ve gotten into the habit of staying up until six in the morning watching movies and then sleeping late into the day. Although it was very fun to do so, it has completely drained me of all motivation to do anything, which is a horrible thing while I am still responsible for online classes.
My plan for this summer was so clear to me before COVID-19 rolled around, but I’m still hoping to get back to what I was hoping to do. I think riding regularly will be a good start to that; when I am more active throughout the day, I tend to be much happier. My issue is that I usually don’t have the motivation to get off my ass and do something, especially now that there are few things to do outside of my house.
I'm glad that you get the chance to work with the horses, and get a good schedule! I also tend to be more productive when I have a schedule to adhere to.
