Kat's 8th post

I watched a movie with way too much on screen farting this spring break. I went to my friend Mark’s house for the latter half of break, and a movie that he wanted to watch is called The Lighthouse.  He had been talking about this movie for weeks because it apparently was well received by critics. The fact that no one else wanted to watch it with him should have been warning enough, but alas, I watched it with him anyway.
A brief synopsis of the movie: two men work in a lighthouse far off shore. They’re supposed to only be there for four weeks at a time, but a storm delayed the shift change.  The plot follows the men’s descent into madness; this includes the annoyingness of being stuck around the same mannerless person who farts all the time (among other things) and some other weird shit that I’m still not quite clear on.

I usually like psychological thrillers, and I suppose this movie didn’t disappoint. Although interesting to watch, I feel like I looked over what the producers wanted me to see.  Instead of thinking about the themes and messages presented in the film, all I could think about was farts. I, like most children, can’t resist laughing at the occasional toot, and The Lighthouse had Mark and me rolling throughout the whole thing.  Every time there was a tense moment, the last word was always a juicy fart from the crusty old man. Hilarious. On the other hand though, I can relate to the younger character; I think I would also go crazy if I was stuck around an unapologetic farter.  The fun of witnessing someone letting one loose is laughing about it afterwards, but in this case Robert Pattinson’s character wasn’t given the opportunity to laugh about it, and for him I’m sure it got old.
