Something that I was really looking forward to doing was NUterm. I couldn't wait to experience campus life during the summer months. With the weather being warmer and the ability to spend more time among other freshman, I knew the possibilities were endless. There was so many things I wanted to do, like take a weekend trip to New York and explore more of what Boston has to offer. I know these are all things I can do in future years, but I was just excited to experience it all sooner rather than later, especially with N.U.in causing us to enter in the spring. This was a way, in my opinion, to connect with more students and enjoy being at Northeastern during the summer. Now however, I will be completing the courses I registered for online. Mostly, I wonder how lab is going to go. In addition, I'm not particularly excited to complete more exams using an online format, but there is nothing I can do. Learning through lectures that are on a screen has made everything so much more difficult (in my experience). I can't focus the way that I do during in-person classes. I know I need to fix my mentality and opinion towards online classes since I will have to deal with them through the summer months as well. It is mind over matter, so it is up to me to implement ways in my daily schedule to ensure I am staying on track.

In addition to Summer 1, I decided that I will also being doing Summer 2 online. This will keep the months I am at home busy. Hopefully, by then, things will be back to normal so that I can get a job because we will technically all be home from now until September. That is one thing I've always loved about Northeastern, the long vacation. This time in between fall and spring semester allows for a chance to get the little things done that we can't do during the year. Another aspect of summer that I was looking forward to was obtaining my EMT license. Because I want to do a clinical co-op, our advisor mentioned the importance of either being EMT or CNA certified. There is also a class that Northeastern offers where you can gain clinical skills. I wanted to complete an EMT training course over the summer, because this is when I knew I would have the most time, without multiple distractions. It takes around 3-5 months, so I went in with the expectation of needing to set aside time for this class. The program that Boston University offers was the one that I intended on taking because of all the opportunities the syllabus describe's such as ambulance ride-alongs and hands-on labs. Unfortunately, I am going to have to wait until the fall or spring to enroll in an EMT class due to the switch to remote learning. I know either way that I'll be able to get it done before I begin applying to different co-ops, so that's all that really matters I guess.

  1. The EMT thing sounds so cool! I think Northeastern might also have some sort of program for the fall but I'm not too sure. I only went to one EMT club meeting before I realized it was too time consuming. I am also doing summer 1 and I too was looking forward to making new friends and experiencing Boston. I feel like the more time we spend on campus, the less time we'll be labelled as the "NUin kids" which even though I loved my time in Greece, I would like to get rid this label. I felt like doing summer classes was a way to catch up on my Northeastern experience and now I am really sad that it was canceled.
