Blog Post #11

Another week has gone by, and I say my mood about quarantine is only increasingly becoming more negative. I know that my life could definitely be worse, but I am getting very old of the same routine every day. The most exciting thing that happened to me this past week was yesterday when it seemed like almost everyone in my entire town went outside because of the beautiful day. There were people absolutely everywhere, all walking their dogs, running, or walking with friends. My sister and I got to walk down to the beach and watch some surfers catch waves. I live MA, so even though they looked like they were having fun, I know that the water was absolutely freezing in the 40-degree weather. They were a ton of people sitting on top of the causeway taking pictures and videos, or just sitting there to watch. It was really cool though because I haven't seen that many people in my town band up together to watch surfers down at our public beach. And it was really nice to see some new faces after being stuck with my family for so long. Going for walks has really kept me sane. My family and I try to get outside once a day, at the very least. We take my dog down to the beach or around the block and try and soak up every minute of it. My sister and I have been working on our basketball skills by playing numerous rounds of HORSE and 1v1, which I currently getting destroyed at by her.

I would like to eventually see some news on the TV that is uplifting. It seems like a lot of what is broadcasted nowadays is very cynical and less hopeful. It is consistently about how our situation is getting worse and different stories of people dying. I understand the severity of COVID-19, but I would love to see news on something other than the disease- something uplifting. There was one video on the news of a grandparent and their grandchild dancing with each other across the street blasting music. I'm not going to lie, that video definitely helped cheer me up. Speaking of COVID-19, I have heard that this might only be the first "wave" of the disease. This news is undeniably terrifying, and something that I really hope is not true. My Dad consistently talks about how he knows so many people out of work because of this pandemic, and it makes him really worried about them. I know the first thing you don't think about is the economy when it comes to this pandemic, but a lot of families are taking a harder financial hit than the rest of us, which is scary. I just hope that if everyone stays inside and practices proper social distancing, this "second wave" will officially be a rumor in the past.
