Mikayla- Blog Post #11
As the days in quarantine continue, I am actually becoming more and more thankful that I have a sister. Although at times we might want to kill each other, I really couldn't imagine going through this quarantine without her. For the past about a month my sister and I have accomplished many new adventures we forgot were there. For example, we rediscovered our Wii. This has been a huge game changer during quarantine, as it has become a daily ritual to compete against each other in Mario Cart. We even dug through the game closet as my house and have started playing games such as, rummikub, memory, and too many card games to count. Although we are both busy with classes and homework, it is these parts of the days that I look forward to. If I have a thirty minute break in between my online classes, and she has a forty-five minute break, we can easily fit in a couple rounds of Mario Kart before we both have to get back to work.
My sister is almost three years older than me in age, but only two years in school, so I remember in high school when I had to spend two years at home without her. At the time it was normal and I got used to being treated as an only child with the attention all on me, but now since we can't leave the house, I can't imagine it only being me here. My sister and I have even started going on runs or long walks together just to get out of the house. I know that there are not that many positives to the current situation, but I think that everyone should at least try to make the most out of the situation. It could be a good time to rediscover all the games that made a lot of childhoods so much fun, or even reconnect with some family members, just as I have done with my sister. I feel like sometimes everyone's lives are so busy that we forget to just relax sometimes, at least that is the case with my family. My parents are always working and traveling, so although it is not the preferred way to spend time with them, it has actually been nice having everyone home. Even though my parents are still working from home, they definitely seem to have a lot more time on their hands at night for us to all spend time together.
Anyways, although this is not the best situation and I would rather still be a Northeastern, it is a great opportunity for me to spend more time with my family and I am very happy about that.
